A herdshare is a way for you to enjoy fresh raw milk from animals you partly own. Instead of buying milk, you purchase a small ownership share in the farm's herd (or an individual cow or goat). As a co-owner, you're entitled to a portion of the milk your animals produce, and you pay the farm a boarding fee to house, feed, milk, and care for your animals on your behalf.
Herdshare members own a share of the herd — not a whole animal. Your share represents your ownership interest, which is what entitles you to the milk. The animals stay on our farm, where we handle all the daily care.
Due to Indiana law concerning the sale of raw milk, it is illegal for us to sell raw goat milk for human consumption. We can, however, sell you a share of the herd, which entitles you to the milk produced by that share. Purchasing the share makes you the owner of the milk, and you pay a monthly or weekly fee for the board and care of the goats.
We are not certified organic. However, we feed organic hay, non-GMO grain, and do not spray our pastures. We strive to use organic and natural care whenever possible, however we do use antibiotics when necessary to treat sick or injured animals. The milk from a doe treated with antibiotics is collected separately and disposed of for twice the length of withdrawal time recommended.
Yes! We understand that many people have had a bad experience with goat milk, or have never tried it. Send us a message, and we would be happy to set up a time for you to pick up a free pint of milk to try!
Please be advised that any dairy products--cream, butter, cheese, yogurt etc-- require a milk subscription. Due to the legalities of herdshares, products must be made with the customer's share of milk. Thank you for your understanding!
